School's out! Fun things to do in your mid-year holidays

We have seen many herds of UQ gazelles hopping, skipping and jumping out of their final exams. Congratulations on all your hard work, we hope you enjoy your holidays.

Now what are you going to do with all your spare time? Run away with the circus, make an igloo in your living room, eat your way through Brisbane ... the options are endless. Here are some of our favourite ideas to relax and unwind in your hard earned holidays.

Things to do in Brisbane this mid-year break

  1. Embrace your inner Jon, Daenerys or Arya – Is your heart longing for more Game of Thrones? Then why not head along to the Abbey Medieval Festival on the 9th and 10th of July. Be one of the spectators at the joust and cheer on your champions who compete for glory and honour.

  2. Winter Festival – Shake out your winter jacket and beanie, winter is finally here. Delight your inner child with open-air ice skating, toboggan rides, European food markets, or indulge in a warming hot choccy. The Winter Festival runs from the 17th June – 10th July.

  3. Chase waterfalls – Brisbane is spoilt with nature on our door-step. Dig out your hiking boots and hit the tracks to discover Brisbane’s best waterfalls, lakes and waterholes.

  4. Botanic Gardens Riverside Markets – Feed your belly and your inner craft lover, as you wander through the variety of stalls. All while being surrounded by the natural beauty of the City Botanic Gardens. Every Sunday 8.00am – 3.00pm.

  5. Get lost in Footy Fever – Don your team’s colours and get your footy fix, over the winter season there are heaps of games from local and international favourites. Check out individual team websites for upcoming home game dates. Up the Broncos!

  6. Continue your learning with a work-shop classWith a wide variety of workshops on offer, including: Launching an Online Store, Intro to Linocut Printmaking, Weaving Workshops, Pickling Workshops and Clay Jewellery there really is something for everyone.

  7. Get active – There are several races coming up in Brisbane in August so start training now and take part in the big Brisbane Marathon Festival (which has 42.2km, 21km, 10km and 5km options) or the Bridge to Brisbane (10km).

However you spend your holidays we hope you enjoy some good R’nR. The holidays are a time for you to slow down and relax so that you can come back feeling rejuvenated. Give yourself some time to do the things you love but also make time to stop, reflect on the year so far and think about your goals for the end of the year. We have found that the below position is perfect for reflection time.
